What Are Remainders?
In the previous lesson, we have learnt that Division is when we split things into equal groups.
- If you have 10 cookies and 2 friends, you can divide the cookies so everyone gets the same amount of cookies (5 cookies each).
But What If It Doesn’t Divide Evenly?
Sometimes, when you divide, there are some left over.
Those are called remainders!
🍎 Let’s Use Apples!
Story:
To represent remainders, we use the notation R. R1 means a remainder of 1, and so on.
Remember, remainders must be positive or zero! You cannot have a negative remainder!
Therefore, as explained in the video, 7 ÷ 2 = 3 R1
